Course in Astrobiology

A Post Graduate (PG) level specialised course in Astrobiology and Astrochemistry will be conducted at the MP Birla Institute of Fundamental Research,
Bangalore as week-end classes on Sundays from 26 May 2013 to 30 June 2013.

The syllabus of the course will be at M.Sc. level, and will include topics like life on other planets of our solar system, general conditions for the existence of life, probability of life on Mars, origin of life, evolution of intelligence, information biomolecules, biogenetic carriers, extinction of dinosaurs, etc.

Also, a PG course in Radio Astronomy will be conducted at the MP Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, Bangalore as week-end classes on Saturdays from 25 May 2013 to 29 June 2013.

The number of seats is limited to 30 for each course and admissions will be made on first-come-first-served basis.

Nominated for masters programme

Government of India has nominated six of their top level officers to study master’s programmes at King’s College London starting September 2013. Funding for Government of India officers to study at King’s has come from the Department of Personnel & Trainingwho manage a number of training schemes for their staff. Half of the officials will take up the MSc in Public Services Policy & Management in the Department of Management at King’s; and the other three officers will be studying on the MA in South Asia & Global Security which is jointly offered by the Department of War Studies and King’s India Institute.

The MSc in Public Services Policy & Management will enable the officers to understand and evaluate policy options for organising and delivering contemporary public services in India. Meanwhile the MA South Asia & Global Security provides a focused understanding of the interrelationships between the history, theory, and contemporary practice of security-led issues in South Asia and Afghanistan.

Graduation Day

The 3rd Graduation Day celebration of Raja Rajeswari Medical College and Hospital was held on April 17 at its premises on April 17. Former President of India, Bharat Ratna A P J Abdul Kalam was the special guest on the occasion.

Kalam inaugurate the newly built state-of-the-art Radiology and cardiology Blocks built on a area of 1 lakh sq ft with an investment of Rs 40 crore. He also visited the hospital to the delight of all the patients and the staff.

Welcoming on the occasion, the Medical Director  said that it was truly a momentous occasion for the College and Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalam said that teachers’ love for research and their experience in research are vital for the growth of the institution. Any University is judged by the level and extent of the research work it accomplishes and this sets in a regenerative cycle of excellence, he added.

Vedic Mathematics

Manas Centre for Training and Development is conducting a short term certificate course in Vedic Mathematics for children above 10 years.

The certificate course is designed to help students to increase their mathematical speed, enjoy and develop confidence in mathematics.

Children’s workshop

The Institute of Baking and Cake Art is conducting a Children’s Baking Workshop from May 2 for 3 days.

The summer baking workshops will cover making of Bread rolls, burgers, pizzas with innovative toppings, muffins, chocolate chip cookies, colour pastry, fruit trifle, fresh cream cake, chocolate mousse, cartoon characters made from sugar molds and cake decoration.
