<p>Thirteen exotic crocodiles and four reticulated pythons will greet the visitors of Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park in Pilikula.<br /><br /></p>.<p> The new inmates, arrived at the zoo from Chennai Snake Park Trust and Madras Crocodile Bank Trust as a part of the animal exchange programme between zoos.<br /><br />The biological park received four Siamese, one African Dwarf, two Spectacled Caiman, three endangered Gharials and three Nile Crocodiles along with four Reticulated Pythons from the Chennai Zoos by exchanging seven Whitaker Boas, four Indian Rock Pythons and two female Indian Cobras.<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Pilikula Biological Park Director Jayprakash Bhandary said that the zoo presently houses four marsh crocodiles. <br /><br />With arrival of five different species of crocodiles, a separate crocodile enclosure will be created. Four artificial ponds have already been constructed. More ponds will be constructed as there are plans to get more species of crocodiles, he said.<br /><br />The Nile Crocodiles are exotic species from Africa and Spectacled Caiman are found in South America. The Reticulated Pythons are found in the North-East India, he said.<br /><br />The animal exchange programme takes place between zoos, whenever there is a surplus of a certain animal species. However, permission from the Central Zoo Authority is required before such exchange, he explained.<br /><br />Bhandary further added that the snake enclosure is the highlight of the Biological park. There are plans to extend the snake enclosure by the end of this year to accommodate more species. <br /><br />Talks are on to bring an anaconda to the park. A new bird aviary is under construction at Pilikula. <br /><br />Correspondence is going on with zoos in Hyderabad and Surat for exotic bird species under the exchange programme. There are plans to include a Asiatic Lion from Gujarat, he said. <br /><br />Pilikula is looking for more adopters for the new inmates in captivity, he concluded. <br /><br /></p>
