Techie held for defaming woman via Facebook

A man pursuing M Tech was arrested by the cyber-crime department of police here for defaming a married woman by posting morphed images of her and obscene material through a fake Facebook account.

The woman had lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police station in the city last November, alleging creation of fake Facebook profile with her name, posting of obscene information and morphed images of her and they being shared with her friends and her husband .

Following an investigation, with the help of technical experts, cops arrested the accused, Rampally Ravi (23), who is a resident of the Karimnagar district.

On interrogation, the accused confessed that he was in love with victim, and that she had got married despite his objection. Even after her marriage, he continued to pester her to have an affair with him. He hatched a plan to spoil her married life by creating fake profile.

As per information provided by the accused, a hard disk, a memory card and other incriminating documents and equipment, used in the commission of the offence, were seized in the presence of mediators. The accused has been sent to judicial remand.
