As it always happens, religious differences once again proved to be the nemesis for two lovers. The couple was brutally hacked to death allegedly for the sake of family honor.

The shocking incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district, about 80 kilometres from here.

The bodies of the lovers were recovered from a field near Mardan Kheda village in the district on Tuesday.

According to the police, the couple had been killed in a brutal manner. “They were first hacked to death with some sharp object and later acid was poured on their faces so that they could not be identified,” the officials said.

According to reports, Sadaraunnisha was having an affair with Sunder Nishad, who lived in the neighbourhood, for the past few years and the couple had told their respective families that they wanted to get married. Their families, however, did not approve of their relationship. However, despite their warnings, the lovers did not end their relationship.

Both Sunder and Sadarunnisha suddenly went missing on Sunday and all attempts to trace them proved futile.

“Since they had eloped from their homes earlier too but had returned later, people thought that they must have eloped again and would come back,” said the police officials.

On Tuesday, the police, on being informed, recovered their bodies.

“It appears from the condition of the bodies that they had been killed a couple of days back and their bodies were dumped into the fields,” said the officials.

Police later arrested the brother of the girl Ishtiyaq and brother-in-law Chand Mohammed in connection with the killing. The accused reportedly admitted to killing the lovers for the sake of family honour.
