JOIN USA man attempted to murder his lover and tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat in the staff nurse quarters of the St John’s Medical Institution, Madiwala, on Saturday afternoon. The victim is Rashmi, 20, and the attacker has been identified as Shashidhar, 25.
Police said Shashidhar assaulted Rashmi with a machete on her head and slit her throat with a paper-cutter knife. Later, he reportedly slit his throat with the knife. The two are presently being treated at the St John’s Medical Hospital. While Shashidhar is being operated upon, Rashmi is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). While the doctors have declared Rashmi out of danger, Shashidhar's condition is critical.
Both Rashmi and Shashidhar are from Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district. Their families reside at Alur village in Chikmagalur district. Rashmi and Shashidhar were neighbours in the village and were in love with each other for two years now.
An year ago, Rashmi had come to the City and was working as a maid at the quarters of Sugandhi, a staff nurse at the St Johns' Medical Institute and a native of Sullia. Rashmi had been living with the nurse’s family.
Police said differences cropped up between Rashmi and Shashidhar in the past three months, leading to a break-up. Sugandhi told the police that Rashmi had not been taking Shashidhar's calls for two months now. Police say this might have irked Shashidhar, who was jobless and back in the village.
“On Saturday, at about 11.30 am, I got a call from Rashmi saying Shashidhar assaulted her. I rushed home and found them in a pool of blood. I rushed them to hospital,” said Sugandhi. Madiwala police have registered a case.
Man ends life
An employee of a borewell drilling company hanged himself at his office on Saturday morning in Yelahanka New Town.
The deceased has been identified as Tirumalesh Reddy, 29, a resident of Chikkabanavara. Police said Tirumalesh was working as manager at his relative Lakshman’s company.
His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan when other workers came to open the shop.
