Huge arms haul in Kashmir

Security forces on Saturday claimed to have seized a large cache of arms, ammunition and military articles from a terrorist hideout near the Line of Control in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army’s Jammu-based PRO Col S N Acharya said based on specific intelligence inputs about the cache, a joint search operation was launched by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police in Sabra Nala of Mendhar on Saturday.

“During the searches, two AK 47 rifle with plastic magazine, one weapon 7mm Caliber with magazine, one rifle Bolt Action 7mm, three Pistol Point 30 Caliber with magazine, one Pistol 7.65mm with magazine, one UBGL, five magazine AK 47, 1019 rounds ammunition AK 47, two magazine Pistol Point 30 Caliber, three rounds ammunition Pistol point 30 Caliber and other ammunition were seized,” he Acharya said.

The Army said the large-scale recovery indicated that the cache might have been sent to revive terrorism in the region.
