New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor is known for his pyrotechnics with the bat, which he showed off during his stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first three seasons of the IPL.

Ross has been picked up by the Pune Warriors India (PWI) this season and his batting skills have been honed despite a calf injury. “Injuries are common in a sport like cricket. It is about how fast you get over it and get back on the field. That’s how much I love the sport,” Ross tells Metrolife.

Ross has his fair share of fans in India and his good looks and soft-spoken ways could flatter just about anybody. Ask him what he misses the most during his IPL tour and he says, without batting an eyelid, “I miss my little daughter who has just about turned two. She’s the best thing that has happened to me so far. I wanted to bring her along for this tour but things didn’t fall into place. But when I get back, I hope to spend as much time with her as possible,” he beams.

Much like his fellow cricketers, Ross believes that during the IPL, all the cricketers put rivalry aside. “The two months that we spend together brings us all close and at the end of it, parting is always sad,” he adds. He feels that this year, cricket lovers have got to see some great action on the field.

“It’s been a tough competition but nonetheless, I’ve enjoyed every moment, be it the pressure during the game or after,” he adds.

Ross doesn’t really confess to having any favourite player but he diplomatically says, “The IPL offers a great chance to mix around and bond with as many people as you can and we all, I think, try and do that in our own way. But the hectic pace leaves us with very little time to do anything else.”  Although Ross hasn’t managed to grab a lot of time to scout the cities he has played in and do a little shopping, he surely has his list of favourite dishes when it comes to Indian food. He swears by chicken tikka masala and black dal but says he just can’t resist biryani.
