Loy Mendonsa has a simple philosophy — he remains calm and takes life as it comes. Even moments before stepping on to the stage, he can be seen casually chatting with the people around him. He has given the industry some of its biggest hits and his relationship with the keyboard has been instrumental in establishing the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio.

A frequent visitor to Bangalore, he says that the City has a unique audience. “I really like performing in Bangalore. The audience here is vibrant. They give the artiste breathing space. I feel that the City administration has done a commendable job and hence, big artistes can come and perform here. Mumbai, on the other hand, is very politically motivated when it comes to performances,” he says.

The audience loves it when he performs in the City and he makes it a point to create magic whenever he is on stage. “I have performed several times in Bangalore with different artistes. The experience has always been very enjoyable for me,” he explains.
“Youngsters listen to all kinds of music as they have access to artistes from around the world. The administration should support them. People in Bangalore are privileged as artistes from across the world have performed here,” he notes.

Talking about the various talent hunts that are being organised, he points out that these provide artistes with a good start.

“They give young artistes a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talent and to perform with renowned artistes. Musicians today are very confident and the amount of exposure they get is tremendous. In some cases, they go on to make a mark for themselves in the industry,” says Loy. When it comes to the current trend of item numbers, Loy says. “How the hero and heroine are portrayed in the song matters the most. It is wrong to blame item numbers for the rising crime rate. A criminal mind does not get influenced by anything as such — society should be sensitive towards women.”

For now, the ace musician is busy churning out hit numbers and has a lot in his kitty. “Our future projects include Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and ‘2 States’. We are composing the music for many upcoming movies and hoping for the best,” he signs off.
