Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth gets one year extension

Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth, who was due to complete his two-year term next month, today got one-year extension.

Seth, a 1974 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, has assumed the charge of Cabinet Secretary on June 14, 2011.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved the extension of tenure of Seth, the country's top bureaucrat, by one year beyond June 13, 2013, a press release issued today said.

Born on November 24, 1951, Seth holds Masters degree in Chemistry degree. He is known as a meticulous bureaucrat who plays by the rules.

Seth, who is 30th Cabinet Secretary, has served in various key positions in Uttar Pradesh government and at the Centre.

His predecessor K M Chandrasekar, who retired in June 2011 after his two-year term, had also been given one year extensions twice-- 2009 and 2010. Chandrasekar had served as Cabinet Secretary for four years.

The ACC has also approved that Anil Goswami, IAS(Jammu and Kashmir cadre:1978 batch), Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs, will hold additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Justice from May 22 to 26, 2013 during the absence on leave of D K Sikri, IAS (Gujarat:1975), it said.
