'Periyapatna polls, a challenge for JD(S)'

Last Updated 14 May 2013, 19:50 IST

The JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy has said that the party has taken the Periyapatna elections as a challenge.

“The constituency is located close to that of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. I will strive to ensure the victory of JD(S) candidate. I will personally campaign in Periyapatna from May 16 to 18,” Kumaraswamy said here on Tuesday.

The former chief minister said he will consult all the elected representatives of his party before deciding on the Legislature party leader. A meeting of JD(S) legislatures has been called next week.

‘Chance to prove’

Kumarswamy said the JD(S), will not be ‘attacking’ the present government for the next four months. “We intend to give the present government a chance to prove itself. We will be vigilant on the functioning of all the departments,” he said.

The JD(S) leader alleged ‘serious malpractices’ in the counting of votes in Malavalli, T Narasipura and Sindhagi constituencies.

He said the party candidates have lodged complaints against the counting staff and the Election Commission rejected the complaints’ directing the candidates to approach court.

Dismissing the populist announcements by Siddaramaiah as ‘not a big deal,’ Kumaraswamy said the schemes were already introduced in the previous budgets.
