Car mows down elderly woman

Four persons were killed, while one was injured in separate accidents in the City on Tuesday.

An elderly woman, Ratna Chalam, 65, a resident of Bhuvaneshwarinagar in T Dasarahalli, was killed after she was hit by a Chevrolet Tavera car on Bangalore-Pune National Highway-4 early Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the accident took place at around 5.30 am near 8th Mile when the victim and her relative were crossing the road. They were on their way to City for some work. Ratna was rushed to M S Ramaiah Hospital, but died on the way.
Police have arrested the car driver.

Tragedy on tracks

Two unidentified persons were killed on the spot after they came under the wheels of running trains in separate accidents near Whitefield and KR Puram railway stations early on Tuesday.

A youth aged around 30 years was killed after a train knocked him down while he was crossing the tracks near Kaveri Nagar close to KR Puram police station.

In another accident, Raju B, 23, was killed in a similar fashion between KR Puram and Whitefield railway stations. The police shifted the bodies to Bowring Hospital. It is not known whether the two were cases of suicides or accidents, Cantonment Railway Police said.

Teenager killed

A teenager was killed on the spot after the bike he was riding pillion collided with a BMTC bus at Kanaminaki in Kumbalgodu police limits.

The victim Nagaraju, 17, and the rider Venkatesh, 30, both residents of Kumbalgodu, were heading towards Hejjala. Venkatesh escaped unhurt.

Nagaraju had cleared his Class X examinations recently.

“A heavy vehicle returning to the City from Mysore stopped on the road at Kanaminaki due to technical snag. The police blocked the road and temporarily converted the other end of the road into two-way. A speeding BMTC bus driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed the bike. We have arrested the driver,” a police officer said.
