Keep tainted leaders out of Cabinet, CM told

Last Updated 14 May 2013, 22:32 IST

Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy on Tuesday wrote to Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, asking him to ensure that ‘tainted’ MLAs in his party are not given an opportunity to become ministers.

The letter, written on a postcard by Doreswamy, appeals to the chief minister to take note of the names of his party colleagues who are aspiring to become Cabinet ministers in the new government, despite being named in illegal mining cases by the Supreme Court.

The freedom fighter has specifically named Anil Lad, D K Shivakumar and Abdul Wahab, who are under the Supreme Court scanner.

Activist T J Abraham has also sent a letter to the national vice-president of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, seeking his intervention in selecting ministers in the Siddaramaiah-led government.

Pending cases

In his letter, Abraham has chronicled the numerous cases pending with the Lokayukta under the Prevention of Corruption Act against eight of their MLAs over the past few years.

The names include D K Shivakumar, Baburao Chinchansoor, R V Deshpande, among others. A copy of the same has been sent to Siddaramaiah also.

Abraham has appealed to the Congress high command to ponder over the composition of the Cabinet and to ensure that  it is free from persons against whom corruption charges are already registered and investigations are pending at various stages.
