JOIN USThe Bangalore Division of the South Western Railway has recorded overall earning of Rs 1197.74 crore during 2012-13 — 12 per cent higher compared to the previous year. The amount has allowed the Railways to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark for the third consecutive year.
In passenger earnings, a press release said, the Division has clocked Rs 905.12 crore, higher by 13 per cent, while sundry earnings stood at Rs 75.31 crore, an increase of 72 per cent.
It also reported Rs 675.98 lakh in ticket checking earnings, up by 17 per cent.
The release also claimed that it ran the highest number of special trains––3,388 during 2012-2013.
The Division completed construction of 23 rail under bridges (RUBs), converted 18 level crossing gates from unmanned to manned and electrified the Bangarpet-Marikuppam section. Besides, it also completed the construction of two pitlines at Baiyyappanahalli as Phase I work of Baiyyappanahalli Third Coaching Terminal was completed in a record time of 108 days.
“We also commissioned the doubling between Channapatna (three lines) and Shettihalli (four lines) as part of Phase II of Bangalore City – Mysore doubling project on March 30, 2013,” the release said.
The Division also added three new services – the Mysore-Shirdi-Mysore Weekly Express, the Puri-Yeshwantpur-Puri Weekly Garibrath Express, the Solapur-Yeshwantpur-Solapur Weekly Express – in the financial year that concluded on March 31, while extending the Bangalore City to Bangarpet service to Marikuppam.
Similarly, the Bangalore-Shimoga Express was extended to Talaguppa and the Yeshwantpur-Dadar-Yeshwantpur Chalukya Express was extended to Pondicherry, the release said.
Increase in frequency
The Division increased the frequency of services from thrice a week to daily on the Yeshwantpur-Solapur-Yeshwantpur Golgumbaz Express line, while frequency on the Bangalore-Arsikere-Bangalore and Bangalore-Hindupur Express lines were increased from six days a week to daily.
