Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he was planning to hold the first session of the 14th Legislative Assembly from May 29.

The Cabinet is learnt to have discussed the possibility of holding the session a day after election to Periyapatna Assembly constituency scheduled on May 28 and authorised the Chief Minister to finalise the date and recommend to the Governor on convening the session.

Official sources said the session is likely to be held for a brief period of five days. The first two days would be dedicated for MLA-elects to take oath as members of the Assembly. Later, Governor H R Bhardwaj would deliver his speech to members of both the Houses of the Legislature.

The session would conclude by passing a motion of thanks to the Governor's speech. Election to the post of Speaker is also likely to be held during the session.

The Siddaramaiah government is likely to present a new budget in July by convening a separate session, officials said.
