Woman escapes  murder bid by lover

A receptionist at a private firm in the City staved off a lethal attack by her boyfriend at his house in Girinagar, Monday evening. Help arrived after she called up one of her friends late in the night, as the attacker had locked her up and fled.

Presently, she is being treated at a private hospital. The City police have launched a manhunt for the boyfriend, Vinay T R, 24.

The 25-year-old woman is a resident of Dasarahalli in Peenya and is the only daughter of her parents. She got acquainted to Vinay over Facebook an year ago. Vinay, hailing from Melukote, was employed as an associate engineer with a private firm and is a resident of 9th Main Road, Nagendra Block. The lovers had taken the approval of their parents for the marriage. But, her parents had sought two years time, which upset Vinay.

On Monday, he made the woman come to his house. The woman, in her statement to the police on Tuesday, said she went to his house and they watched a movie on his laptop. Towards evening, an argument ensued between the two over a trivial issue.

“He asked me to get his passbook from the laptop bag which was on the floor. When I bent down to fetch the passbook, he suddenly attacked me with a lethal weapon on the head. I used my right arm to defend myself, injuring it in the process. Again, he gave a blow with a machete and this time two of my fingers were chopped off. I fell unconscious,” she said.

On regaining conciousness at 1.30 am, she called up one of her friends, asking her to inform her father and employer. The woman’s father rushed to the Peenya police station and the cops informed their Girinagar counterparts.

The police rushed to Vinay’s house, broke open the door and shifted her to the hospital. The Girinagar police have registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
