All praises for Anushka

Deepika Padukone might have made her share of fashion ‘faux pas’ on the red carpet. But over the years, the actress has developed a sense of style that probably turns many of her contemporaries green with envy.

In fact, she scorched the red carpet with the slew of chic outfits this award season, proving that she had the elan and poise to carry off the riskiest of garments. But the actress knows she isn’t the only one in the industry to garner this reputation — she admits that among her contemporaries, she believes that Anushka Sharma and Kangana Ranaut are well-dressed on every occasion.

While Deepika and Anushka made their Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om (2007) and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), respectively, Kangana entered filmdom with the 2006 hit movie ‘Gangster-A Love Story’.

There have been rumours that Deepika and Anushka had a fall-out thanks to the former’s alleged closeness with Ranveer Singh. After all, who can forget Anushka’s rather bitter lashing out at a few of her peers? But obviously, all of that is a thing of the past.

“I think Anushka and Kangana are two people who are always very well turned out. It looks very effortless,” confesses Deepika. She adds, “It doesn’t look like they have been put together by a stylist. I think they carry off Indian and Western outfits equally well.”

Talking about her favourite outfit, the 27-year-old actress says, “I love Indian clothes. If you ask me, the sari is my most favourite garment. I am most comfortable in a sari.”Deepika will next be seen in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Ranbir Kapoor, slated to release on May 31.

Lending her voice to the movie

Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, who will be sharing screen space with Bollywood’s dancing diva Madhuri Dixit in Gulab Gang, says that she has given a playback in the film too.

“I recently wrapped up shooting for my film Gulab Gang. We had a wonderful time shooting for the film and not many know that I have also sung a song in the film,” Tannishtha says.

“It’s a song which is picturised very well. I am a trained singer and beyond this I am not allowed to talk too much about the song,” she adds. The actress says it’s a women-centric film and the perfect way to celebrate a 100 years of Indian cinema. “I fell in love with the script when I heard it. Shomik is a visionary director. It’s a fabulous film and it was great being part of it. There are so many women coming together in this film — it’s a complete women’s film and I feel it’s the perfect way to celebrate a 100 years of Indian cinema,” she says.

Tannishtha also adds that though she will share screen space with Madhuri, her character in the film didn’t allow her to shake a leg with the diva.

“Madhuri is the number one dancer — she is the best. I am sharing screen space with her and it was a pleasure working with her. I am not dancing in the film as my character doesn’t allow me to do so,” she says. Directed by Soumik Sen, the film is based on a true incident and a gang called Gulabi Gang.

No need to think twice

Sonu Sood confesses that he was so eager to work with film-maker Ramesh Taurani that he gave his nod to Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya without even having read the script.

Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya, the launch pad for Taurani’s son Girish Kumar, is produced under the Tips Industries Ltd banner. Shruti Haasan plays the female lead in it.

“I was in Canada when I got the call for the film and without even reading the script, I immediately said, ‘Yes, I will definitely do it’,” the 40-year-old says.

“This is because when I came to Mumbai 10 years ago, I met Rameshji (Taurani) and asked him, ‘When will I get a film?’ And he said, ‘Very soon’. But it took him 10 years to take me (in a film),” adds Sonu, who has also been signed by Taurani for an Akshay Kumar-starrer.

In Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya, set to release on July 19, Sonu plays Shruti’s strict brother.  Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya has been directed by Prabhu Deva and also features veteran actors Vinod Khanna and  Randhir Kapoor.

Off on a holiday!

Actress Vidya Balan, who is currently having a ball of a time at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival, will set out for a holiday with husband Siddharth Roy Kapur in France after the movie extravaganza. “Vidya is currently at Cannes and Siddharth is expected to join her towards the end of the Cannes International Film festival. Both of them are expected to be in France post the fest for a small holiday,” says a source close to the actress.

Vidya is a jury member at the fest, where India is the guest country this year. The actress tied the knot with Siddharth Roy Kapur, the managing director, Studios, Disney UTV, in December last year.
