JOIN USLaw Minister T B Jayachandra said on Thursday that a committee of legal experts was likely to be formed to look into the pros and cons of the Supreme Court judgements on the Cauvery river dispute with Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters, Jayachandra said his department would seriously consider the constitution of the committee to look at plausible answers to the issue.
“We need to understand the pros and cons of the situation before taking any decision on the release of water to Tamil Nadu,” he said.
On being questioned about the statements as Leader of the Opposition by present Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on replacing Fali S Nariman as the lawyer representing the State in the Cauvery dispute, the Law minister said he would not say anything on any such decision.
“The situation was so emotional that certain statements were made in the Assembly, seeking clarity on the river dispute. We will consider the situation and proceed further,” he said, staving off the question on Nariman’s alleged ‘poor performance’ in the Supreme Court in the Cauvery dispute.
Jayachandra said he was scheduled to meet the Chief Justice of Karnataka and one of the issues to be discussed was the March 2012 incident between lawyers, police and journalists.
Jayachandra, who is also the Minister for Animal Husbandry, said he would have a detailed discussion on the issue pertaining to veterinary colleges in Hassan, Bidar and Shimoga, which were shutdown by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).
“With close to 800 posts of veterinarians vacant, we need the colleges to generate the resources. The lack of basic infrastructure will be discussed with the department officials and resolved. I will also speak to the VCI authorities and resolve the issue,” he said.
