Suspended inspector among five booked under multiple charges

Allegations also against three head constables

A police inspector who was recently suspended from Nazarbad police station in the city for registering a case against Rakesh Siddaramaiah son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has been booked under 14 charges including murder threat, extortion, robbery, kidnap and cheating. Three other policemen of the same station are co-accused.

G N Mohan the suspended police inspector is the A-2 (Second accused), while retired district surgeon Dr Srikante Gowda of Yadavagiri is the prime accused. The remaining three accused according to the order are; Anil Shankpal, D Devaraje Urs and Mahesh, also head constables. This development follows a recent court order.

Puttamahadeva of Gayathripuram in the city had moved a court here alleging that the said policemen had swindled money from him in a case, besides failing to ensure justice.

According to police, Puttamahadeva was owing Rs 1.5 lakh to Srikante Gowda. When Gowda went asking for the money, Puttamahadeva had allegedly assaulted him. Later, the duo knocked on the doors of Nazarbad police (as Gayathripuram comes under its jurisdiction), where they brokered a truce.

Puttamahadeva in his petition to the court has alleged that on November 26, 2011 when he went to the station he was abused by the police. The police also threatened to book a robbery case if  he failed to repay the amount.

Later, the police collected Rs 10,000 in cash and obtained two cheques for Rs six thousand each. The police warned him again with dire consequences if the cheques bounced. For the remaining amount, Puttamahadeva was forced to sign on a bond.

Puttamahadeva had recorded the conversation with police on his cellphone and had made copies of it. In his petition (PCR 18/13) to a local court on May 17, he had submitted the recorded tapes too.

On May 23, following an order from the court to investigate a case under 156/3, the police filed a FIR (Crime number 102/13) framing the accused under several charges; 116, 120-b (Conspiracy), 220, 342 (unlawful confinement), 347, 348, 355, 384 (extortion), 389, 390/2 (robbery), 506 R/w 392 (murder threat) 365 (kidnap) and 468 (cheating).
ACP of Devaraja sub-division Anjali has been asked to probe into the case.
