Locals foil gang rape bid on minor

Man assaults her in moving car while four others wait for their turns

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a moving car after being kidnapped by five men in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala on Saturday.

Four of the accused were beaten up by locals before being handed over to police, but the main accused managed to flee.

The arrested persons have been identified as Irfan, Arif, Afzal and Wasim, residents of Khajuri Khas in north-east Delhi. The absconding accused, 21-year-old Anish, works as a barber.

“Anish allegedly raped the girl in a Maruti WagonR car, while the others were waiting to take turns,” a police officer said.

Their act was noticed by some motorcyclists, who forced them to stop the car and thrashed them.

According to police, the incident came to light after a call was made to the police control room at 11 pm. “Initially, the call reported a brawl in Kanjhawala,” the officer added.

A police team noticed four men being beaten up by locals, and intercepted them. Upon questioning, police found out that the accused were trying to rape a girl in their car.

The victim told police that she lives with her family in Sawada JJ colony in Kanjhawala, and was abducted by the five men when she was wandering near her house.

She was taken away in the car, and while the car was being driven, Anish allegedly raped her.

“We have gathered information and are trying to locate Anish through technical surveillance,” the officer said.

The girl was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for medical examination. “It confirmed she was sexually assaulted,” the officer added.

The accused also underwent treatment at hospital for minor injuries.

A case of rape has been registered with Kanjhawala police station over the victim’s statement and medical report. The accused face also charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
