The unit is being started by Sanjeevi Navasaksharara Mahila Swa Sahaya Sangha, Sneha Navasaksharara Mahila Swa Sahaya Sangha, Shanthi Navasaksharara Mahila Swa Sahaya Sangha in Nagalapura GP limits and by Pavithra Swa Sahaya Sangha, Sneha Self Help Group from Menasoor GP.
As many as 50 members from these SHGs have taken loans from the banks for the project, which costs Rs 15 lakh. The unit will have over 30 sewing machines, 2 overlock machines and one generator.

The unit is being set up by taking assistance from Arjuna Rural Development Institution and Research Centre to provide employment to women in rural area and accordingly a month long training has been given to SHGs at the district centre. Another training will be organised after the setting up of the centre.
The 5 SHGs which are setting up the unit have got loan of Rs 15 lakh from banks under SGSY apart from subsidy of Rs 5.25 lakh from Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat.

Arjun Rural Development Institution will take care of providing raw material for production as well as marketing of the finished products. The women working in the unit will get income on basis of split contract system and for the first 3 months, they will be given Rs 1,800 as allowance from the government.

Government has provided a building free of cost for the unit and the SHGs are not even required to pay rent for the same. Once the SHGs pay off the loan, the property will belong to the groups. Though one such unit was set up in Sithur village in the taluk six months ago, opening of this unit was delayed as the building was not provided with electricity connection.

All in all, the villagers feel that it is a great development that garment factories are mushrooming in small villages too. They are hoping for a better future with more and more employment opportunities coming their way.
