Customs clearance to get faster at BIA

Last Updated 29 May 2013, 20:55 IST

A new initiative by the Bangalore Customs at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) will considerably reduce the waiting time of passengers when getting their courier consignment from abroad cleared as well as enabling them to monitor its passage in real time.

Henceforth, passengers can download the format of the export certificate from the airport website: www.bangalorecustoms.gov.in and fill in the particulars after which they need to mail it to: acairportbangalore@gmail.com as an attachment, 24 hours in advance of their flight.

The passengers can then bring the hard copy of the export certificate to the airport and get their consignment from the concerned authorities.

This service will be in addition to the already existing service of issuing custom certificates at a few locations in the City. Moreover, BIA has also set up a separate link, “courier assessment” on its website which will provide information on queries raised by the customs on their consignment.

The passengers only need to put in their airway bill number in order to know the status of the consignment. This service will help passengers or their courier company to provide the necessary clarification without having to visit the airport. Earlier, neither the courier company nor the consignee had any access to any information

Speaking about the initiative Commissioner of Customs, Bangalore, Sandeep Prakash said: “These two initiatives are being attempted for the first time at an Indian airport. We are delighted to have made a time consuming process simple and more transparent.”
This will also add to the efficiency merits of the BIA, he added.
