Film revives fan's memories of Raj as Bond

The fans of Kannada thespian the late Raj Kumar on Friday, went down the memory lane as they watched ‘Operation Diamond Racket’ at Kapali theatre.

Such was Raj’s sway over his fans that 32-year-old Madhusudan came all the way from Kunigal to watch the movie, which was released in 1978, at Kapali theatre.
“Watching the movie, I went back to the old days. Though I watched this movie several times on the television, this is the first time I watched it on the big screen. I will come back again, if possible, with my family members to watch it,” said Madhusudan.

B S Radhakrishna from Mysore said: “After 20 years, I watched this movie again. The film is not just thrilling but also packed with a lot of action scenes and Raj Kumar looks no lesser than James Bond in his dapper suits.” M Muniraju purchased the film from a Kannada film distributor S Venkatesh two months back and approached the Kapali theatre authorities to re-release it. The movie is currently screened in four shows – Morning (10:30 am), Matinee (1:30 pm), Evening (4:30 pm) and Night (7: 30 pm), respectively.

“While the old movie was screened in 35 mm at all the theatres in the city, the new movie is being shown full screen (cinemascope) at the Kapali theatre. It has been released across 26 theatres all over Karnataka and in Bangalore, at only one centre. The movie, running a total of three hours is relayed from satellite with the help of technologies such as UFO and CUBE,” added M Muniraju.

According to the Kapali theatre authorities, the film will be screened depending upon the response from the public. While a balcony ticket and first class tickets are priced at Rs 70, the second class ticket will cost around Rs 60. Muniswamy T, a resident from Peenya Industrial Area got himself a matinee ticket and watched it along with his group of friends on Friday. He said: “I watched the movie at the theatre for the first time when I was studying in class VII and consider fortunate enough to watch it again on the big screen. The action scenes are good and the print is also good.”

The last Raj Kumar movie which Kapali theatre screened was ‘Jeevana Chaitra’, three years back. ‘Operation Diamond Racket’, directed by Dorai - Bhagvan, stars Vajramuni, Padmapriya, Toogudeepa Srinivas, Fighter Shetty and Tiger Prabhakar among others.
