KSRTC adds 50 new buses to its fleet

Plans to build satellite bus station at Peenya

Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy on Sunday flagged off Karnataka State Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) 50 new buses that will ply on new routes.

This is the first set of 1,528 buses the corporation plans to add to its fleet by the end of this year.

KSRTC managing director Manjunatha Prasad said: “The corporation is adding 50 new buses which includes four Volvo multi-axle, six Rajahamsa, 40 inter-city regular buses, all of which will ply on new routes. These buses will ply on intra and inter-state routes, helping a large number of people residing in places along the new routes.”

KSRTC also unveiled bigger plans of expansion which it aims to achieve by the end of this year. “Shortly, we will commence the construction of a satellite bus station at Peenya and will implement an intelligent transport system, a vehicle monitoring system on 4,000 of our buses in order to constantly track them,” Prasad said. The corporation has also undertaken the construction of four bus depots at Mysore, Hassan, Honnali and Belur.
Two depots at Sira and Bagepallli and 10 bus stations at Panchanahalli, Nanjangud, Halebeed, Somwarpet, Holenarsipura, Arakalgud, Sullia and Bharmasagara will be upgraded.

Driver training

KSRTC in association with the Social Welfare department is establishing three driver training institutes at Chikmagalur, Malur and Malavalli to train its existing employees and unemployed youth of the State. As many as 1,200 drivers and 600 mechanics will be trained at each institute. In all, 5,400 people will benefit from this free training, he said.
