JOIN USThe High Court on Monday observed that age limit for marriage should be increased for men and women from the existing 18 and 21 respectively as the present generation was not mature enough to take decision of their lives.
Hearing two habeas corpus petitions, a division bench headed by Justice K Sreedhar Rao observed that the youth were being misled by watching movies which focused on love stories. The bench observed that the IPL matches were another reason for misguiding the present generation and that cricket matches should be banned. The two couples in question had eloped and married. The court separately asked the couple and their parents whether they agreed to the wedding, to which the women consented to live with their husbands’ families.
Bail rejected
The High Court on Monday rejected the bail petition of car driver Satish, the second accused in the murder case of Kannada actor Hemashree. Justice Anand Byrareddy denied him bail as there was prima facie evidence against him.
During the hearing, the counsel for Satish submitted that the police had already filed a charge sheet against him and there is no chance of he tampering with evidence.
The government counsel submitted that after the murder, Satish was absconding for 18 days and had misplaced his mobile phone which hampered the investigation. Satish was driving the car in which Hemashree's husband Surendra Babu drugged the actor with excessive chloroform, which led to her death. The counsel also submitted that Satish was not co-operating with the investigation and if he was granted bail at this stage, there may be chances of him absconding again.
Consumer forum posts
The High Court directed the State government to fill the vacancies in the district consumer forums and Karnataka Consumer Disputes Redressal State Commission within four weeks.
Hearing a petition by Basavanagouda Patil and others, a division bench headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela disposed of the petition, with a direction to the government to fill the vacant posts.
According to the petitioners, more than half of the 30 district consumer disputes redressal forums across the State were either without a president or lacked stipulated number of members. While there were no consumer forums in the newly-created Ramanagar, Yadgir and Chikkaballapur districts, the post of president in the Bidar district consumer forum has been vacant for more than a year. The vacancy of two members has not been filled in the State Commission, the petitioners claimed.
Notice to Math
The High Court on Monday ordered issue of notices to the secretary of the Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt, State government and deputy commissioner, Bangalore Urban, in connection with the allotment of 25 acres of gomala land to the Mutt by the government.
The petitioner Govindaraju K G contended that the government had allotted 25 acres of the total 154.24 acres of gomala land meant for cattle grazing at Kanminike village, Kumbalgodu, Kengeri hobli, to the Mutt.
The government had issued the sale deed of the allotted land to the Mutt in 2012 and it started construction work.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna ordered issue of notices.
