‘Strings Attached’

Bhoomija is presenting ‘Strings Attached’, a veena and violin special concert for children on June 8, 7 pm at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall.

‘Strings Attached’ is a signature of the Bangalore-based veena and violin duo — Jayanthi and Kumaresh. The concert will also feature Ananta Krishna on the mridangam and Pramath Kiran on the percussions.

Funky styles

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is organising ‘B-Boy Battle Freeze 2013’ with German hip-hop legend ‘Storm’ on June 8 and 9, 1 pm to 7 pm, at CMR National PU College in Kamanahalli. The fest started out as a small initiative by Black Ice Crew to bring boys, young and old alike, from across the country under one roof. Niels Robitzky alias ‘Storm’ presents hip-hop and funk styles since 1983 and is one of the leading artistes and pioneers in this field. Entry is free. Creative journey
Artist Shakal Star is showcasing her abstract art work at Inorbit Mall, EPIP Area, Whitefield from June 7 to June 23, 11 am to 9 pm.

The artist’s work emerges from the belief that with a little sense of responsibility and creativity, one can create art work that can be appreciated and absorbed.

Young voices

The Bangalore Gayana Samaja is organising a ‘Youth Music Festival’ from June 9, 6 pm to
8.30 pm. There will be a saxophone concert by Harish on June 9. He will be accompanied by D R Chetana Murthy on the mridangam, Chidananda on the morsing and C R Pradesh on the violin.

Fresh approach
Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is presenting an exhibition titled ‘Hands On Maths’
curated by the Mathematikum,Germany, the first interactive mathematics museum in the world, till June 15, 10 am to 5 pm, at Goethe-Institut/ Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar. It is being presented in collaboration with the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum.

The exhibition is closed on Sunday. ‘Hands On Maths’ presents a new approach
towards mathematics. It displays a selection of particularly popular and established experiments from the exhibition in Giessen, Germany.

Story telling

Atta Galatta is presenting an evening with The Storywallahs on June 8 from 5 pm onwards.

Laugh riot

Godrej Properties is presenting, ‘Three Men in a Boat’, a stand-up comedy show on June 8, 7.30 pm at Park Hotel, MG Road and on June 9, 7.30 pm at Alila Hotel and Residence, Whitefield.

The show features Daniel Fernandes from Mumbai, Raj Sharma — the headlining act from USA — and local comedian Kenneth Sebastian.

For children
British Library is organising a workshop on, ‘FUNdamental Reading Skills’ by Rani Rao Innes on June 9, 11 am to 3 pm at British Library, Kasturba Road.

Ranjani Fine Arts is presenting a vocal recital by Vani Sateesh on June 8, 4 pm at Sobha Lakeview Clubhouse, off Outer Ring Road, Bellandur. Vani will be accompanied by Mysore Sateesh on the violin, K U Jayachandra Rao on the mridangam and S Sri Shaila on the ghatam.

Memorial concert

The Indian Institute of World Culture is presenting the ‘Sri Masti Venkatesha Iyengar Memorial music concert’ on June 8, 6 pm at No 6, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi. There will be a concert by S Aishwarya, disciple of Jambu Kannan. She will be accompanied by Vittal Rangan on the violin and Akshaya Anand on the mridangam. There also be a sugama sangeetha recital by Shankar Shanbhogue on June 9, 6 pm as part of the ‘Nalini Raghunatha Rao Memorial Endowment’ programme.

Dance on

Triveni Charitable Trust  and Sri Ramamandira is presenting a dance programme by children titled, Haridasa Kalarava on June 9, 5.50 pm at Sri Ramamandira East Park Road, Malleswaram.

‘Open Air’ 

Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is organising ‘Bangalore Open Air’ to select the ‘Best Indian Metal Band’ at the ‘Wacken Open Air Metal Battle’ on July 6 at Jaya­mahal Palace Hotel. The winner, after heated preliminary rounds in several cities, will bask in glory on the ‘Jeff Hanneman Stage Bangalore Open Air’ in Bangalore. ‘Sodom’, the legendary German thrash metal trio, will also perform on July 6. Registrations for the ‘W:O:A (Wacken Open Air) Metal Battle’, which is a part of ‘Bangalore Open Air’ is being called by ‘Infinite Dreams’. The last date for registrations is June 10. ‘Lights Out’

Lights Off Productions is presenting ‘Lights Out’, a play, on June 8, 5.30 pm at Alliance Francaise.

The crux of the story is how men never let women decide and take control.

Graceful moves
The bharatanatyam rangapravesha of G Supriya will be held on June 9, 6 pm at ADA Rangamandira, opposite Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. She is the disciple of Hemalatha Prakash.

‘Black and White’
Magnitude Gallery is presenting an exhibition called ‘Black and White’ till June 30 at the Gallery, No 140/13, 27th cross, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.

‘Black and White’ is a collection that depicts faces, figures, imagination and
abstract pieces.

‘Blues Around...’

‘Blues Around Town’, a series of blues concerts will be held till June 8.
The series of concerts will be held across different venues in the City. There will also be busking sessions in places like Church Street, Indiranagar, Domlur, Koramangala and JP Nagar.
            
The aim of the busking sessions is to spread the culture of performances in public spaces.
The grand finale will be held on June 8 at CounterCulture and will feature a performance by international artiste Monica Hedgal from Norway.

The evening also features ‘Overdrive Trio’ from Mumbai, Warren Mendonsa from Mumbai, ‘Hoodoo Gas’ and ‘Chronic Blues Circus’.

Delightful renditions

Cobalt, an art and music association, is presenting a series of programmes on June 8 and 9.

There will be an exhibition of paintings by Havyaka artists, a Yakshagana recital titled, Bheeshma Vijaya Yakshasiri, a Hindustani classical music concert and Geethachitra and sitar recital by Lalitha Hegde and troupe on June 8, 5 pm. There will also be a Hindustani classical music concert by Anitha Hegde and sitar recital by Subramanya Hegde and party on June 9, 5 pm.

Of landscapes

An exhibition of water colours by Anand Bekwad, called ‘Mystical Landscapes’, is on display at the atrium at Alliance Francaise till June 12, 11 am to 7 pm.

His landscapes are transformed in such a way that at times they appear abstract. The artist prefers to makes the spectator feel the visual narrative.
