Passenger caught with bullets at IGI

A passenger has been arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s domestic terminal for carrying 11 cartridges with invalid licence in his check-in baggage, police said on Friday.

Azmat Ali Khan, who hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, was held on Wednesday when he was scheduled to board a SpiceJet flight to Kochi via Mumbai.

“The baggage screening unit at the airport detected some suspicious items while checking of one of the registered baggage,” a police officer said. When the bag was opened in his presence, 11 cartridges of 0.30 mm were recovered.

Azmat had neither declared at the airline’s check-in counter that he was possessing cartridges in his check-in luggage nor could he produce valid documents. “The passenger accepted that he brought the cartridges, but he was not holding a valid licence,” the officer added. A case has been registered against Azmat with IGI Airport police station under section 30 of the Arms Act.
