Karnataka students bag top ten ranks in Comed-K

Students from Karnataka have beaten their counterparts from other states in the Comed-K UGET exam by bagging all the top ten ranks in the engineering stream.

Three students from the State also figure in the top ten ranks of the medical stream. In the top 100 ranks, there are 41 medical rank holders and 85 engineering rank holders from the State, according to an official release by Comed-K.

The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K) announced the results for the entrance test on Tuesday. The exam was held on May 12, 2013.  The first rank in engineering was secured by Abhijeet Shenoi of National Public School, Indiranagar.

Neeli Devee Krishna Sashidar, a student of Sri Chaitanya Institution in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh,  topped the test in medical stream.

This test determines the eligibility for the seat share of the managements in private unaided colleges: 40 per cent in medical colleges, 45 per cent in dental and 30 per cent in engineering courses.

This year, 7,560 more candidates have been declared eligible for medical and dental programmes compared to the previous year. Of the total 82,262 candidates who appeared for the exam (5,000 more than the previous year), 40,578 wrote the exam for medical and dental courses.

Of them, 16,695 were qualified for seat selection. In engineering, all the 41,684 candidates who appeared for the exam have been declared eligible for seat selection process.  The consortium has published the rank list on www.comedk.org. Counselling for seat selection will begin on July 2, 2013.
