Analytical Chemistry

UK based University of Southampton is inviting applications for its newly launched MSc programme in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry . The course will enable graduates to develop specialized knowledge and hands-on practical skills for a successful career in analytical chemistry. This is a one-year programme structured around three main analytical techniques – Mass Spectrometry, NMR Spectroscopy and X-ray Diffraction, each of which contain a number of key common themes, like data collection, analysis and management.

The programme commences in September 2013.  The deadline for overseas applications is June 30, whilst UK/EU applications remain open until the programme commencement date. Success track

After India's Quintessential JEE Exam, Rao IIT Academy students have secured their positions in the distinguished BITS exam also. Two students from the two-year classroom programme of the Academy proved their mettle in the exam. Aniket Patankar secured 416/450 and Rajat Garg secured 406/450. Both of them had proved their adroitness in the JEE Main 2013 also. According to the Chairman, Dr B V Rao, M B Srinidhi one of the brightest students of the institute has secured his position in Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA 2013). However, number of students who appeared in this exam is around 4 lacs out of which only 120 students could make it. All the 9 students who came from Karnataka to Kota have been selected in JEE Main 2013.
Creative writing

British Library, Bangalore is organizing a creative writing work shop, “The art of writing fiction,” on Sunday, June 16, 2013.

The workshop will be conducted by Asha Francis between 11am and 4pm at the British Library, Kasturba Road cross, Bangalore. It is aimed at people of 18 and above age group.

Cambridge qualifications

The number of schools offering Cambridge qualifications in India has risen significantly over the past year. Schools in India made over 44,000 exam entries for Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS and A Level, a rise of 15% since 2012.

There are now over 310 Cambridge schools in India, and more than 9000 schools in 160 countries make up the Cambridge learning community worldwide.

In Karnataka, 48 schools have taken up Cambridge qualifications. Schools in this region have made over 6000 exam entries for Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International As and A Levels.

Ebenezer International School, Mallya Aditi International School, New Baldwin International Residential School, The International School Bangalore (TISB) and Vibgyor High are a few schools from Bangalore which offer Cambridge qualifications.

 The core subjects most popular among learners in India are physics, maths and chemistry.
