Applications invited for MBBS / engg scholarships

Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund set up by World Konkani Centre (Mangalore), invites applications for Merit-Cum-Means Scholarships-2013 from Konkani Speaking students belonging to any caste and religion, seeking professional education in the stream of Engineering and MBBS.

According to a press release, that states the eligibility criteria, only candidates with Konkani as mother tongue can apply for the scholarship regardless of caste and religion. Mother tongue certificate needs to be provided while applying.

Only candidates who are seeking admission to the first year of the Engineering or MBBS course in 2013 can apply. The candidates need to score 70 per cent in SSLC and in the core subjects in PUC and also secure a ranking of 20,000 and below in the Common Entrance Examination (CET).

The total annual income of the candidate's family should be less than Rs 3 lakh per annum. However, the income limit is relaxed to Rs 4.5 Lakh per annum in special circumstances.

Students should be willing to sponsor two students after securing employment and should contribute 20 days in the year 2013-14 to the community service.

Most deserving candidates will be selected on the basis of verification by independent panelists and each of the selected candidates will be awarded scholarships amounting Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 for Engineering and MBBS respectively.

Candidates fulfilling the criteria can apply Online for the Scholarships  through an online application module set up by world Konkani Centre on website: www.vishwakonkani.org.
Application module will be opened for applying till July 10.

‘Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund’ was instituted in the year 2010 . In the year 2012, Rs 2 crores was distributed to more than 1,300 students as scholarship.

An outlay of Rs 2.50 Crore is envisaged for the distribution in the year 2013-14. Contributions to the Fund will be eligible for Tax Exemption under section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act, according to a press release.
