The Congress, on Friday, urged the Election Commission (EC) of India to take steps to ensure free and fair elections in Chhattisgarh following the recent Maoist attack on a Congress convoy in which several senior leaders were killed.

With the state going for Assembly polls by the end of this year, Congress leaders urged the EC to use advanced techniques of GPS to track the polling parties' movement and ensure their presence in the polling booths, that are located in sensitive and difficult areas.

The delegation comprising senior leaders Motilal Vora, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary for the state, B K Hariprasad and acting state unit chief Charan Das Mahant had a 30-minute meeting with the full commission of the EC, during which they raised various concerns including one related to alleged bogus voting in Maoist-hit areas.
