Last Updated 14 June 2013, 19:40 IST

The Congress top brass on Friday discussed the Food Security Bill and the Telangana issue and has decided to hold meeting with opposition parties on these issues to forge consensus.

The meeting attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, decided to forge a consensus with the opposition parties over the Food Security Bill.

The sources said a view in the Congress is that there is no need to handle the Food Security Bill issue like the Indo-US nuclear deal and that the government should reach out to the opposition to get its support.

On the Telangana issue, the core group has decided to hold discussions with all stakeholders including different political parties after the Assembly session in Andhra Pradesh concludes on June 21.

The meeting also reviewed the situation in Hyderabad as pro-Telangana parties organised the 'Chalo Assembly' protest.
