Police nab two vehicle thieves

Last Updated 14 June 2013, 20:16 IST

Mico Layout Police have arrested A Parameshwar and Jayaprakash for stealing vehicles in City over the past two years.

According to the police, the duo would target multi-utility vehicles in residential areas and break into them using gas-cutter.

They would push the vehicle to a distance before starting the ignition. The suspects had studied the police barricade pattern, hence could drive the vehicles from the City, change the number plate and sell them to unsuspecting customers in Tamil Nadu, police said.

The south-east division police formed a team last year, after noticing a rising trend of vehicle thefts at Mico Layout, Sampagiramanagar, Madivala and Tilak Nagar.

“We observed that all vehicles were stolen between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and not recorded in the police barricade logs. The police increased barricade duties till late morning,” police said.

The police achieved a major breakthrough in January, when Parameshwar and Jayaprakash struck again and stole a vehicle of a retired IAS officer at Madivala, who coincidentally spotted the duo fleeing with the vehicle and reported to the police.

“We immediately alerted our men at different barricades and nabbed the duo who tried to flee when they were intercepted at a barricade in Madivala,” police said. The arrested, apart from confessing to vehicle theft, also admitted to stealing valuables such as laptops, two-wheelers and house burglary all totalling worth over Rs one crore.
