Another lone woman murdered

The incident came to light as the milkman noticed that the gate and main door of the house were thrown open and he informed the neighbours. The neighbours in turn called the police.

Shivarudraiah, the husband of Uma Devi is a headmaster in a government school in the same area. The childless couple were living in their own house and Uma was alone when the crime took place.

Shivarudraiah had gone out of town to distribute marriage invitation cards of his sister’s daughter. They were originally from Narasapura in Kolar district and were living in Vijayanagar for the past two decades.
Sources said that around 8 pm on Sunday, Uma was engrossed in a marathon conversation with one of her relatives. Recently, the couple had decided to give their first floor house on rent and had also taken token advance from the prospective tenant. A few, close to the family said that the couple had differences.

The police have ruled out murder-for-gain and suspect the hand of known persons in the crime. There were no signs of  forcible entry into the house. Preliminary investigations have revealed that not more than two people are involved in the crime, suspected to have been committed with a steel rod. However, the weapon was not found at the crime spot. Meanwhile, the police are grilling the husband. It is learnt that he is coming out with contradictory statements.

Rowdy-sheeter stabbed

In another incident, a rowdy-sheeter was stabbed to death, allegedly by the friends of his relatives in Nelagedarahalli in Peenya on Sunday night.

Police said that the victim, an inebriated Hanumanthraju alias Kodi (45), was picking up fights with everyone who had come to attend a ceremony. He abused a woman which took a serious turn. A heated argument ensued as the husband of the woman summoned his friends, Ravi, Venkatesh, Kulla and Kariya. The gang took out knives and allegedly stabbed Kodi on his stomach. The injured died on the way to the hospital. All the  accused later surrendered to the police.

Dowry death

Prema (23) hanged herself to death in her Gavipuram Guttahalli residence, allegedly due to dowry harassment. Prema hailed from Kallur village in Gubbi taluk and was married to one Ranganath, a weaver by profession, last year.

Ranganath, his parents and sisters started pestering Prema to bring in more dowry. They did not allow her to go out of the house and speak on cellphone to anyone. Unable to bear the torture she committed suicide. The police have arrested Ranganath, his parents and sisters.
