NIMHANS facility for Mysore proposed: Vasu

As a measure to improve health care facilities in the city, a branch of National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) has been proposed, said Chamaraja MLA, Vasu here on Monday. He said that though an ESI Hospital is being constructed in the city, it was essential to develop healthcare sector in Mysore.

He was speaking at an interaction programme organised by Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

Speaking on hawkers in Mysore City Corporation limits, he said that steps should be taken to control them. “The street hawkers do not pay tax to MCC. They are also responsible for causing losses to the traders who run their shops by paying taxes,” he said.

He however said that Infosys cannot be expected to pay taxes to MCC, in the “larger interest”, as it was earning foreign exchange to the country.

Advising MCC to be “pro-society, alert and effective”, he said that MCC should take measures to improve the basic facilities in the city.

“Overall development of the city will take place only if transportation to the city is improved, facilities to provide accommodation for tourists visiting the city are made and basic facilities for the general public are ensured. It is shocking that a tourist hub like Mysore is not connected by a national highway,” he said.

He also complained that funds were being under-utilised by the departments, which is also a reason for the delayed development of the city.

President of MCCI, Sudhakar Shetty said that industrial development should be given impetus in the region. “Industries should be provided with water and electricity at a reduced cost,” he said.

He urged the MLA to take necessary steps to tackle the waste management problem in the city. There are technologies to convert waste generated to fuel. Such a plant should be established in the city rather than dumping them at yards, he said.

Members of other organisations related to trade and commerce in the city, also aired their grievances and demands.
