After a rare book

The Book of Eli’ is set in a post-apocalyptic society that is extremely violent. Eli is a drifter who has been wandering towards the west of North America for the past 30 years.

 He carries with him a unique book — the Book of Eli. Eli survives by hunting animals and looking for goods left behind in destroyed homes. He trades them with villagers for other requisites. He reaches a village ruled by Carnegie, a mobster. Carnegie is keen that Eli joins his gang. 
That was before he found out about the Book of Eli. Later, Carnegie would do just about anything to get his hands on the book. Catch the film on Zee Studio at 9 pm on June 19. It stars Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson and Jennifer Beals.

A team of dangerous teens

Tune in to ‘Gridiron Gang’ on Sony Pix at 10.50 pm on June 19. In this movie, Sean Porter is a probation officer in a juvenile detention camp.

With help from co-worker Malcolm Moore, Sean manages to coach a high school level football team from a group of undisciplined teenage inmates who are actually dangerous.

 But it is no easy task, what with the objections from Sean’s sceptical bosses and the other coaches at high schools, who do not want their students to mingle with convicted criminals. 

Will Sean and Malcolm manage to achieve what they set out to do? Watch the movie to find out. 

It stars Dwayne Johnson, Leon Rippy, Kevin Dunn, David V Thomas, Xzibit and L Scott Caldwell.

Six stories come together

Watch Darna Zaroori Hai on Filmy at 9 pm on June 19. The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Anil Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat and Manoj Pahwa. 

The movie is woven around six bone-chilling stories, each with an individual plot and ending. 

It kicks off with a group of children who are lost in the woods. They come across an old woman, who agrees to narrate six scary tales to them, challenging them to sit through all of them. Watch the film to find out whether they come out alive.

Waiting for a final farewell

In tonight’s episode of Saraswatichandra, SC and Kumud make every attempt to meet once last time before they have to go apart. But despite their best efforts, their attempts to get together end up failing. SC and family leave but since they weren’t able to meet before leaving, SC makes up an excuse and goes back. In a dramatic twist, they end up meeting in a factory.  Catch the show on Star Plus at 7.30 pm on June 19 to find out what happens next.

Based on a love triangle

In Jaan-E-Mann, Suhaan, Agastya and Piya are in college together. Suhaan is the college hunk and all the girls are in love with him, while the intelligent Agastya studies hard but has no guts to talk to any woman. Both men love Piya. When Agastya finds out that Piya loves Suhaan, he moves away to the USA and becomes an astronaut working with NASA. Years later, he finds out that Suhaan and Piya are getting divorced. When he comes down to meet them, Suhaan encourages Agastya to fall in love with Piya all over again. Why would he do that? Catch the film to find out. It airs on Sony Max at 2 pm on June 19 and stars Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta, Anupam Kher and Soni Razdan.

Scientific explanations behind strange events

The Reaping’ stars Hilary Swank, David Morrissey, Idris Elba, Anna Sophia Robb and Stephen Rea. In this film, Katherine used to be a Catholic missionary. She becomes a staunch atheist when her husband and daughter are sacrificed by the locals who blamed them for the long drought. Now, Katherine investigates religious phenomena just to prove them wrong and finds scientific reasons for everything that’s happening around her. She is invited to visit Haven, in Louisiana, where the river turned to blood after the death of a small boy. How would she explain this event? Catch the flick on WB at 2.49 pm on June 19.

Problems in a ghetto school

In ‘Halls of Anger’, an African ex-basketball player, now vice-principal at a ghetto school in his hometown, must face the inherent problems of desegregation. The film, which is directed by Paul Bogart, is high on drama. It stars Calvin Lockhart, Janet MacLachlan, Jeff Bridges, James A. Watson Jr, Otis Day and Edward Asner. Watch ‘Halls of Anger’ on MGM at 9 pm on June 19.

A robot falls in love

Wall-E’, an animated film, is set in the distant future when all human beings have left Earth as the planet is fully covered with waste. Wall-E is a robot who is staying alone on Earth to collect all the rubbish and make the planet habitable again. 

Watch the film to see what happens when Eve, a sleek robot, is sent to Earth to check out on what’s happening and Wall-E falls in love with her. It airs on Star Movies at 9 pm on June 19.
