'30,000 sites formed on govt land in Bannerghatta'

The land grab scams just doesn’t seem to end. Even as the Bangalore Urban district administration recovered 965 acres of government land including forests in green belt area of Bannerghatta village in Anekal Taluk from land mafia, it has come to light that more than 30,000 sites in illegal layouts were formed and sold to gullible people.

The facts came to light during a surprise inspection conducted by Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore (Urban) G C Prakash at 10 villages coming under the Bannerghatta Panchayat limits on Monday.

Prakash told Deccan Herald that bogus records were created along with fake registrations. “The place where we carried out inspection falls under the green belt where no construction activity is allowed as per law. However, the Panchayat officials colluded with the land mafia to cheat people and created fake khathas,” he said. He added that the scope of the land grab scam was much wider.

The inspection also brought to fore the activities of Champakadhama Swami Temple Management in Bannerghatta, which had allegedly encroached upon 28 acres of reserved upon forest land.

At the end of the surprise inspection, he gave a standing instruction to the Panchayat officials not to issue any khata. Similar directions were given to the sub-registrars not to register properties till the inquiry was completed.

Layout to be recovered

The lake-bed layout formed by the Bangalore Development Authority at Venkataray- anakere will be recovered, said Prakash.

He made it clear that though the layout has been formed by a government agency (BDA), the position of illegality will not change.

“Under any circumstance, layouts cannot be permitted on the lake bed, Raja Kaaluve (natural drains), Gundu Thopu and forests. If that has been done then we will recover it. An illegal layout formed by a government agency will remain illegal,” he added. He also hinted that he would take up clearing of encroachment on lakes and Raja Kaaluve on a priority basis.
