Newlywed ends life

Gangamma, 28,  newlywed, and a native of Doddaballapur, was found hanging at her house in Peenya IV Stage on Tuesday evening.

Gangamma was recently married to Ramanjinappa, 32, a cab driver. The couple was living with her mother-in-law Radha, an employee of Railways. On Tuesday evening, at about 6 pm, when Ramanjinappa returned home Gangamma did not answer his calls and the door was locked from inside. He broke open the door only to find her hanging from the ceiling fan in their bedroom. Though he immediately shifted her to a nearby private hospital, she was declared dead.

Gangamma's father Narasimahaiah, in his statement to the tahsildar, has alleged that Ramanjinappa and his mother have been harassing Gangamma for dowry. He said they had demanded Rs 4 lakh to get a house on lease in City. Based on his statement to the tahsildar and complaint to Peenya Police, a case has been registered under Dowry Prohibition Act, Section 498A of IPC for harassment and 306 of IPC for abetment to suicide. While Ramanjinappa has been arrested, his mother Radha is still at large.
