For two boys of a landslide-hit village in Himachal Pradesh that has been cut off from the rest of the state since Sunday, visiting Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh proved to be the saviour Friday.

Officials said that the chief minister landed at Pooh, some 320 km from state capital Shimla, to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work Friday.

Local boys Thupton Negi, 17, and Hamesh, 14, met him and apprised him about their urgency to reach Chandigarh for an exam Sunday.

"The chief minister directed his staff to facilitate their journey," an official told IANS.

The boys accompanied Singh in his chopper to Rekong Peo, from where they were flown to Rampur town, the base camp in Shimla district, in another chopper that was rescuing stranded tourists.

The chief minister Friday reached Kinnaur to oversee the rescue and relief operations.
