1,000 villages to get pure water by year end

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister H K Patil said on Saturday that a plan to supply purified drinking water to 5,800 villages in the State was being prepared, and water purification units would be installed in 1,000 villages by this year end.

He told mediapersons after inaugurating a branch of the Azad Urban Co-operative Bank on APMC premises that steps were being taken to supply purified drinking water as chemicals were found in water samples at some places.

Around 10,000 vacant posts in the RDPR Department would be filled soon. It was being planned to set up a rural employment authority to generate jobs in villages and a clear picture would emerge in five months, Patil said.

There was a plan to bring in an amendment to the law to improve the Panchayat Raj system, he said.
