Cong leader, medico booked for helping Maoists

The police in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra have registered a case against a local Congress leader and a medical officer of a primary health care centre for trying to supply arms, explosives and medicines to Maoists.

While four men who were taking the consignment in a government ambulance were arrested on Friday night, the police were on the lookout for Congress leader and former zilla parishad president Bandopant Mallelwar and medical officer Dr Ravindra Karpe. Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped an ambulance belonging to Porla primary health care centre near Tadgaon in Bhamragad tehsil, said SP Suvez Haque.
