Jeep hits stationary truck: 6 killed

Six persons were killed on the spot, including five of a family, when a jeep in which they were travelling hit a stationary truck on Sindhagi Road near Mahal-Ainapur in the district on Sunday morning.

A four-year-old child is also among the dead and five are said to be seriously injured.
According to the police, the victims, all from Gulbarga were on their way to Yellamma Devi temple in Saundatti, when the jeep hit the truck about eight km from Bijapur.

The dead are Siddrama Nagappa Banapatti, 60, Rathankumar Siddrama Banapatti, 25, four-year-old Shanthakumar Sharanu Banapatti, all residents of Basava Nagar in Gulbarga, Parvathi Shankar Banapatti, 45, of Gangapur, Shantabai Ningappa Dhotre, 65, and Puthalabai Raju Salunke, 60, of Madanahipparaga in Aland taluk.

Mahadevi Sharanu Banapatti, Renuka Siddrama Banapatti, Nagaraj Anand Salunke, Sharanu Siddrama Banapatti and the driver of the jeep Anand Neelkanth Jamadar, 25, are seriously injured and are being treated in private hospitals. The police have registered a case.
