Fatwa against Vande Mataram

In a resolution adopted at the convention on Tuesday after much deliberation, the Muslim ulema said certain lines in the song violated the spirit of Islam and as such it should not be recited by the Muslims.

Earlier also the Muslim clergy had made it clear that reciting Vande Mataram was against the tenets of Islam.

Incidentally, Vande Mataram was not on the agenda of matters to be discussed at the convention and it was included at the last moment.
