28 villages under drinking water scheme in Udupi dist

Five Gram Panchayats will get solid waste management units

ZP President Upendra Nayak has said that under the multi village drinking water scheme, 28 villages have been identified in Udupi district. The proposal in this regard has been sent to the government for approval.

Speaking to mediapersons, the president said under Nirmal Bharath Abhiyan, 25,237 houses without toilets have been identified. These households will be provided with financial assistance of Rs 4,500 each to construct toilets. About Rs 20 lakh each has been earmarked to Kaup, 80-Badagabettu, Varamballi, Hebri and Navunda to construct solid waste management units, he added.

` 349.53 cr earmarked

The ZP President said that around Rs 349.53 crore have been earmarked for the action plan for the development works during 2013-14, in the district. Out of this, the state government’s contribution is around Rs 51.61 crore and central government’s Rs 41.57 crore.

About Rs 18.74 crore has been earmarked for Akshara Dasoha programme. Around 1,07,170 students will be benefited from the mid-day meal programme during the  academic year. Rs 1.99 crore has been set aside for health department.

About Rs 30 lakh has been earmarked for the repair works in government health centres.
Upendra Nayak said Rs 8 lakh was given to Byndoor community health centre to purchase an ambulance.

The proposal for the repair works at the district leprosy centre and district malaria center amounts to Rs 35 lakh. Rs 115.40 lakh has been released through Social Welfare Department for the maintenance of the hostels.

Rs 45.40 lakh plan is chalked out for the programmes coming under ITDP. About Rs 3.55 crore is set aside for the disbursement of honorarium to the Anganawadi workers.
The ZP President said that an action plan has been prepared for the maintenance of BCM hostels at a cost of Rs 200.76 lakh. Around Rs 40.25 lakh has been distributed for different programmes under agriculture department. Plans have also been chalked out to support farmers. Around Rs 64.50 lakh has been invested for projects like repair works of the jetti, construction of ponds and repair of fish markets. Around Rs one lakh has been allotted for the construction of open air theatre. These project has been initiated under Kannada and Culture department. Atleast Rs 17.66 lakh will be earmarked for the schools for differently abled, he said.

Recognition

ZP President said Udupi ZP, Karkala Taluk Panchayat, Maravanthe and Madamakki GPs are recognised and are honoured under Panchayat Empowerment and Accountability Incentive Scheme (PEAIS). As a result, Udupi ZP has received Rs 40 lakh, Karkala Rs 20 lakh, Maravanthe Rs 14 lakh and Madamakki Rs 13 lakh respectively as prize money, he added.
