Friends booked for murder bid on Bellary girl

A 20-year-old woman from the Bellary district of Karnataka was found abandoned near roadside in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district in an injured condition, leading the police to file a criminal case against her friends.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against her friends, including two girls, on Thursday, the police said. However, the police ruled out possibility of rape.

The locals, after finding the girl abandoned roadside near a hillock in Alur, informed the police who in turn admitted her to hospital on Thursday morning.

“The girl continues to be in semi-conscious condition. She has told the police in writing that she came to Alur along with four people, including her two friends,  in a car and she was hit by wooden sticks and bottles on her head and pushed out of the moving car around 8 pm on Wednesday,” an investigating officer said.

“Medical tests were carried out to ascertain if she was sexually assaulted, and rape has been ruled out. However, she has suffered injuries on her head and mouth. We are referring the girl to a Bellary hospital for better treatment and also to enable us to identify her parents/ relatives,” the officer said.

She named two of her female friends for being responsible for the incident, he added. The Alur police are further investigating the case.
