Tension prevailed for sometime at the mortuary attached to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC and RI) here on Friday, when the relatives of a woman who died of alleged medical negligence at K R Hospital raised a din.

Kavitha (23) wife of Krishna, No 71, B B Keri, ‘D’ block, Pulikeshi road, Mandi Mohalla is the deceased, and she leaves behind her two young sons Nagendra, aged two-and-a-half years and Kumara, eight months.

In his complaint to Nazarbad police, Krishna has alleged that he had admitted his wife to K R Hospital on June 27.

Kavitha who had earlier undergone tubectomy operation at Nagamma Perumal private hospital in Nazarbad on June 22, had recently developed health complications like severe bleeding and vomiting. When admitted at K R Hospital for further treatment, she underwent corrective surgery, but to no avail.

She developed complications again and eventually died at 11.50 am.

Dr B G Sagar, Medical Superintendent of K R Hospital told Deccan Herald that such incidences (complications after tubectomy and also corrective surgery) were rare -- “one in one lakh cases”.

Learning about the incident, Dr S M Malegowda, District Health Officer (DHO) distributed ex-gratia  in the form of cheque for Rs 50,000 to Krishna, husband of Kavitha.

He promised to pay the remaining compensation amount of Rs 1.5 lakh within two months, after a meeting with deputy commissioner. He also promised to recommend action against the doctor to the government after post-mortem report.

Nazarbad police have booked a case against Nazarbad police under section 304 (A) (accidental death) of IPC.
