'Thrust on traditional sports'

The State government will come out with a new youth policy soon after the budget session of the legislature, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister K Abhaychandra Jain said on Friday.

Speaking to mediapersons, Jain said all stakeholders would be involved while drafting the new policy. He said there were complaints that the previous policy of the BJP government had a tilt towards the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsavek Sangh) ideology.

He said government would take steps to encourage traditional and regional sports by utilising the grants provided under Panchayat Youth Games and Sports Campaign of the Centre. At present, only undergraduates are entitled to the facility, he said.

Jain, who also holds the Fisheries portfolio, said the department had sent a proposal to the chief minister to waive cess on electricity utilised by units manufacturing ice used for storing fishes.
