If looks could kill

Riya Sen Guess who is back in the party circuit — its none other than the Bengali bombshell Riya Sen and she’s looking killer and raring to go! Riya is back from a short vacation from Bangkok with her family and is looking more stunning than ever.

Generally people gain weight when they go on their vacation but this actress has maintained her svelte figure and surprisingly has lost oodles of weight.

In fact, Riya was cynosure of all eyes recently at Subhash Ghai’s party. Though she made a late entry because of her shoot, she looked ravishing and turned the heads of one and ll present.

She even received a galore of compliments from various people including director duo Abbas-Mastan and comedy king David Dhawan.

With her recent weight loss and the all-new look, she was without doubt the centre of attraction. Looks like Riya is one lady who knows how to have a ‘healthy’ vacation.

Stars out to promote ‘Ajab Prem...’

Aamir Khan created hysteria with his haircut while promoting his film Ghajini. Now here is another creative marketing strategy. For the film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are on a nation-wide hunt for a ghazab couple. Ranbir and Katrina are travelling to various cities across India to search for a couple with the most ghazab love story.

Adds an industry insider, “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani team members are latching on to a good marketing strategy.” “They are travelling across various prominent cities and taking time out to interact with these couples personally and listen to their love stories on how they met and other interesting experiences of theirs. The winning couple will then go on an exclusive outing with Ranbir and Katrina.”

Adds a trade analyst, “Their promotion strategy is generating a lot of curiosity. It’s the first time that such big stars are taking time out to interact with fans and spend time with them or speak to them. The movie is sure to strike gold at the box office.”
Now what’s left to see is if this ghazab jodi’s efforts will pay off. Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani starring Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor is all set to
release on November 6.

Keeping a vigil

Recently, Shahid Kapoor was able to save a paper cup full of coffee without spilling a drop despite being mobbed while promoting his then-upcoming film Kaminey. Post the release of this blockbuster, when Shahid walked across screaming fans on his multiplex visits, he not only lost his expensive dark glasses, but his metallic coffee flask was actually broken, thanks to the hysterical fans.

The spurt of fans since his superstardom has taken gigantic proportions. So much so that his spot boy, make-up artist, manager and publicist are almost doubling up as his body guards, struggling to keep him and themselves secure at public events. It is not easy to break a metallic flask even in normal circumstances.

This incident coupled with his sunglasses being picked up, and his team dealing with the increased crowds has led Shahid to seriously consider hiring personal bodyguards now.

“Yes I am currently in talks with some security agencies so as to make sure my team’s security is taken care of at such times,” said Shahid.

Hot chocolate energises Big B

There are days when work takes a toll on our energy levels and a steaming cup of tea or coffee is all we need to get back in action.

Well, our stars go through the same and a little birdie informs us that when it comes to pepping up Amitabh Bachchan, it’s hot chocolate that does the trick.

Big B is known for his charismatic charm and his never-say-die attitude. He can give any 18-year-old a run for his money when it comes to his energy. But whenever he feels fatigued, all he needs is a steaming cup of hot cocoa and he’s back in action.

Apparently, on the day of Aladin’s music launch, Big B had had a long day of press interactions and when he felt that he could use a little more energy, director Sujoy Ghosh knew exactly what to do, he immediately ordered for AB’s favourite beverage and voila! Amitabh, as usual, stole the show with his mesmerising speech and impeccable charm!

Together on screen

Soha Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore. The wait to see mother daughter duo Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan together on screen, is finally coming to an end.

The actresses are co-starring in the film Life Goes On for the first time ever. The film has been made by debutant director Sangeeta Dutta and was screened at the 11th Mumbai Film Festival.

The film is set in London and revolves around Sanjay (Girish Karnad), his deceased wife (Sharmila) and three daughters.

A contemporary adaptation of William  Shakespeare’s King Lear, Girish and Soha’s characters operate within the contours of the mythical Lear and Cordelia.

Too much liberty?

In the fields of Punjab, where he grew up, farmers would sing sufi songs, and even his own family sang these melodies.

That is how popular singer Hans Raj Hans learnt the music. Today, he believes that Bollywood takes liberty with the genre. Says the singer, “The words and essence of the kalams (works) cannot change.”

“Only the orchestra can change. It is a good thing that Sufism and music are reaching out to the masses. But the music should not detract the tradition. The exponents cannot play around with the compositions of the great saints.”

Taking no chances

The urge to be a starmaker has now hit Salman Khan bigtime. He realises that he does not need a weighty leading lady to shoulder a film. Most of his forthcoming films, including the ones on the floors have new leading ladies instead of established actresses. Boney Kapoor’s sequel of  Wanted  — Most Wanted, is just one of the few. Prabhu Deva will direct again. The film will have two fresh faces as leading ladies. Even his next film with Sajid Nadiadwala titled Sanki will have a newbie.

Lucky projects

Gautam Rode may have acted in more than 40 commercials, many television shows, music albums and two movies but  Star One’s Lucky seems to be the closest project to his heart.

“I enjoyed working in Lucky. It was both comedy and action. I used to enjoy playing the character. I believe if something like that comes my way, I will be able to do more justice to it. I also liked working in Agyaat as I liked working alongside Ramu (Ram Gopal Varma). He is a very chilled out guy,” says Gautam Rode.

Though like the other Ram Gopal Varma films, Agyaat  was also much publicised, but it failed at the box office.

“Many things went wrong with the film. I feel the timing was wrong as the film released in the same week when swine flu broke out and after three days, the cinema halls were shut down because of that. Second point, I feel it was more of a psychological thriller than a horror film while people came with the mindset of
watching a horror film,” feels Gautam Rode.
