Krishnappa triumphs

Krishnappa B Santhi of Dharwad and Mysore’s Thippavva Sanakki clinched the men’s 12 km and women’s 6 km titles respectively in the Deccan Athletic Club’s KA Nettakallappa Memorial Road Races, sponsored by Deccan Herald and Prajavani, here on Sunday.

Santhi clocked 00:39.24 to claim the gold while Basavaraj Ameengad of VCB College, Lingasuguru, settled for the silver at 00:39.38. Bagalkot’s Appa Saheb had to be content with the bronze at 00:40.52.

In the women’s 6 km race, Thippavva, who was the winner in the same event during the Karwar leg, continued her splendid form to pocket the yellow metal crossing the finish line at 00:25.52.

Shraddharani Desai of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Mysore, took the silver nine seconds off the pace at 00:26.01 while Mandya’s Prafulla KS was the bronze medal winner at 00:28.23.

Kolar’s CN Avinash won the under-16 boys’ 2.5 km run clocking 00:08.15 ahead of team-mate Sujith Kumar S (00:08.34) and Tejas S of Chikkaballapur bagged the bronze with a timing of 00:08.42.  In the corresponding girls’ race, Mandya’s Rakshita R won the gold stopping the timer at 00:10.08 while Omshri V of FAC, Chikkaballapur, was placed second at 00:10.30.

Mandya’s Apporva KP was a distant third with a timing of 00:12.23.
