Bill collector sentenced for graft

The Special Lokayukta Court,  Bangalore Rural, has sentenced a bill collector of Hunasamaranahalli Gram Panchayat to two-year simple imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500.

In 2009, Nazeer Ahmed, who wanted to transfer the khata of a piece of land at Sathanur, lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police stating that Siddappa, the bill collector had demanded Rs 4,500 for enabling the khata transfer.

The Lokayukta police laid a trap and caught Siddappa while accepting the bribe.
The court sentenced him to two years, simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Siddappa was also sentenced to two years, imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10, 000 under 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
