Acting on a tip-off, the Hennur police on Tuesday arrested Sudhakar and Vijay in Prakruthi Layout for brewing illicit liquor and selling it under reputed brands.

The alleged kingpin, Kumar, however, gave the police the slip during the operation. Police have seized Rs 20 lakh worth of illicit liquor.

According to the police, the gang used to get raw materials from Tamil Nadu and brew liquor in the house. The gang bought empty liquor bottles from waste pickers, refilled them with illicit liquor, stamped labels of reputed brand names and sold them in the market.

Five held for murder

The Mico Layout police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of Tilak Kumar, 23. The highly decomposed body of the deceased was discovered at a garbage dump yard at Doddasanipalya. Tilak’s mother had lodged a missing complaint with Mico Layout police a few days ago. He had gone missing since June 24.

Following a tip-off by Tilak’s friend that he had seen him being taken out by one of his friends Gajji Naga alias Nagaraj, police detained Naga and Mariyappa. On sustained interrogation, they discovered that Mariyappa and another friend George, following a bitter tiff with Tilak over a girl, had asked Nagaraj to bump him off.

Naga took Tilak to another friend Balu’s house where they stabbed him to death and disposed of the body at the waste dumping yard. Naga led the cops to the yard from where Tilak’s body was recovered. Mico Layout police have registered a murder case and arrested five men – Gajji Naga, Mariyappa, Balu alias Babli, Sampath and George.
